An Interview with Laura Shepperson

An Interview with Laura Shepperson

We recently had Laura Shepperson in to sign her special edition copies of The Heir of Venus. From the Sunday Times bestselling author comes a new spellbinding retelling set at the dawn of the Roman World. We had Laura's first novel, The Heroines, as our PREM1ER choice in February 2023 and we could not wait to hear more about her new novel!

Out of the three main women in this story who was your favourite?

I loved writing Creusa, she was my favourite character. I loved that there was very little about her out there and I was really able to get into her head and give her a personality, think about what she might have been thinking and doing.

Was the writing process different for The Heir of Venus compared to The Heroines ?

It was a lot faster. With my first book there was a lot, as I was not under contract, there was time to think and meander and take time off. With the second book there was more interest in it and pressure to bring it to the shelf which ultimately resulted in a stronger writing process and being a bit more dedicated and getting it there faster.

What are you currently reading and what is your favourite genre ?

I love reading all books, I love reading most genres. I love historical fiction and mythological retellings and one of my favourites in the last year was Orphia and Eurydicius by Elyse John, which is a gender swapped retelling of the story of Orphia and Eurydice.

Copies of our special edition of The Heir of Venus are available on our website now!
