About the book

The restoration of the once magnificent gardens of Wickersham Priory is to be done by Lawrence Kingston, retired professor of botany, amateur sleuth and eccentric bon viveur. When, in the process of clearing the site, he finds an

ancient healing well concealed within its depths he also finds the remains of a human skeleton. A police investigation follows, but Kingston starts one of his own and soon finds himself on a trail of clues that wind back down the centuries, from the battlegrounds of World War II to the depths of the Middle Ages. It is a journey marked by revenge, compassion and murder. When finally it reaches its end, there is a reckoning that no one, amid the tranquil glories of the garden empire, could have ever imagined.
