A. S. Webb's Top Book Recommendations

A. S. Webb's Top Book Recommendations

  1. An oldy and a goody: Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb. I only read this classic epic fantasy for the first time this year and instantly fell in love. Hobb’s vibrant worldbuilding and skill at writing complex and emotionally rich characters is second to none.

  2. A book that stole my heart: Bitterthorn by Kat Dunn. This gorgeous gothic romance between the lonely daughter of a duke and a mysterious witch ensnared me from the start.

  3. A book that kept me turning pages: The Final Strife by Saara El-Arifi. One of my favourite fantasy books, the vivid world and deliciously flawed characters were impossible to put down.

  4. My favourite Greek myth retelling: Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati. This is a stunningly beautiful and fiery read. Casati is a true master of capturing the essence of a time and place while still engaging the modern reader.

  5. Upcoming & excited for: Firstborn of the Sun by Marvellous Michael Anson. Described as a heart-pounding Yoruba epic fantasy novel full of courtly intrigue and forbidden power – this sounds right up my street. Out October 2025.
