Introducing Our January 2027 Crime Collective Pick: Wolf Point by Lisa Howells
One missing girl. Three possibilities. No turning back.
We're starting a brand-new year of the Crime Collective with a thrilling debut that promises to send a chill down your spine. Our January 2027 pick is Wolf Point by Lisa Howells, an atmospheric, heart-pounding crime novel set against the unforgiving wilderness of Alaska.
A missing teenager. A town harbouring dark secrets. A violent snowstorm closing in. And one determined police officer who refuses to give up.
Why We Chose Wolf Point
From the moment we started reading Wolf Point, we were captivated by it: a remote Alaskan town, a teenage girl who vanishes without a trace, and a police officer suddenly thrust into command when everything begins to unravel. With comparisons to Gillian Flynn, Jane Harper and Tana French, this is a debut we're particularly excited to share with our members
For Terril Black, her first night as sergeant should have been uneventful. Instead, she's facing a desperate missing-person investigation, a department reluctant to accept a woman in charge, and a race against time in one of the most unforgiving environments imaginable. In Wolf Point, the first few hours can mean the difference between life and death. And when a brutal snowstorm cuts the town off from the outside world, the search becomes something far more sinister.
What really drew us into this novel was the combination of a brilliantly atmospheric setting and a compelling central character.
Terril is exactly the kind of protagonist we love discovering: determined, resourceful and unwilling to be intimidated, even when the odds are stacked against her. Surrounded by colleagues who question her authority and a community reluctant to reveal its secrets, she must rely on her instincts to uncover the truth.
And then there's Alaska itself. The isolation, the bitter cold and the sheer unpredictability of the wilderness create an eerie backdrop for a mystery in which danger seems to lurk around every corner.
It's this balance of tension, atmosphere and characters you'll immediately root for, that makes the novel such an exciting choice for our first Crime Collective selection of 2027.
