    Fine first editon, with some foxing to the top of the page block and the paste downs. Slight lightening to a stipe along the bottom of the spine. In a fine price-clipped dust jacket. There is a slim stripe along the top and bottom of the jacket not covered by the jacket finish. Slight bubble to jacket finish on front cover. Comes with letter verifying the authenticity of the signature from Savills auction house.

About the book

Berlin, the Greek Islands, London and California. 1928, 1932, 1938 and 1940. Four portraits, four settings, four narrators, all known as 'Christopher Isherwood'. Often regarded as the best of his novels, Down There on a Visit tells the vivid stories of Isherwood's life that, together with The Berlin Novels, were to have comprised his great unfinished epic novel.

About the Author

Christopher Isherwood

Christopher Isherwood was an Anglo-American novelist, playwright, screenwriter, autobiographer, and diarist.


His best-known works include Goodbye to Berlin(1939), a semi-autobiographical novel which inspired the musical Cabaret; A Single Man (1964) adapted as a film by Tom Ford in 2009; and Christopher and His Kind (1976), a memoir which carried him into the heart of the Gay Liberation movement.
